Does your dad or husband have everything he needs? Does he tell you over and over again to save your money and not get him gifts for holidays?
My dad is so difficult to shop for because he will NEVER drop a hint on something he would like. Most moms are a little easier- at least sharing a tiny bit of information at things they like.
I wish I were around my dad this Father’s Day. Maybe it is a little bit of wishing I was there that led me to write this post for him. For certain, I will try and do one of these items with my husband.
Sometimes the greatest gifts come free. Perhaps this Father’s Day your dad or husband might want some good, one on one time with you or some words of encouragement. Either way, here are a few ideas if you are struggling to find a way to honor your dad or husband this Sunday!
1. Pray for him.
This one is so easy, and often so overlooked. Pray for your father or husband. Prayers is effective and life changing. You never know what could come of it. Pray for his health, for his wisdom, for his relationships, for his ability to lead his family, for his occupation, for his appetite and desire to spend time in the word, for purity, for community that would love him, for passion, drive and motivation, for a calling that is fulfilling, and for his stance with the Lord. We all have struggles and issues, so pray for the hard areas of his life and also the little details. If you feel so led, share with him the areas in which you prayed for him.
2. Do his favorite past time with him
Men can be such doers. Does he love to fish? Go with him on a day trip to a lake. Does he love to golf? Let him teach you his favorite sport. Does he love to hike? Find a great trail and go together. The point is, go do something with him that he loves. It might be one of your favorite memories with him.
Beer and meat. What man does not love these two things? Treat the man in your life to a relaxing afternoon of BBQ. Try not to make too much of it. Just relax.
4. Watch home videos
Pull out those silly home videos and spend some time laughing over your past. Fun conversations, belly laughs, and remembering special moments are a good way to thank the man in your life for his presence.
5. Write him a letter
A home made letter is still one of my favorite gifts. Write out the reasons you are thankful for the man in your life. Include the qualities that you love about him, how he helps you in life, and how much you love him. My bet is he will keep that letter forever.
