I am delighted to introduce you to one of my favorite Etsy shops- The Bird and Bean! I am so excited to be giving away one lucky reader a personalized toddler nap mat valued at $70 USD. Kristy, the shop owner, is the sweetest gal to work with. I asked Kristy to share a little about herself with my readers. Take it away Kristy!
“I began sewing at the age of ten. My first experience with sewing came when I was at a sleepover where, yes this really happened, we made little tiny pillows on my friend’s old Singer sewing machine. I’m not exactly sure if that is what normal ten year old girls do at a sleepover, but it was my normal, and I loved every moment.
My niece has become the inspiration for most of the products on my Etsy store. She is the “Bean” in my shop name. I made my first nap mat for her as a Christmas present, and not soon after that, I decided to open my Etsy store. I enjoy making things for children, introducing a lot of color and varying patterns into everything I create.
I graduated from the Architecture program at Auburn University in the spring of 2011. I have always been a very artistic and creative person, but if I learned anything from school, I’d say it is singularly “the art of putting things together.” I know that seems fairly basic, but it made me see the beauty in organization, in symmetry, in making sure your work is well made and put together in a logical manner. This has translated so much into my sewing, especially as I venture into things other than quilting; in this case specifically, into my products on Etsy. I want to provide well-planned, well-intentioned products, so adjusting my methods and coming up with new routes and ways of doing things happens almost daily; In this way, my shop and my products are always evolving. I love getting feedback so that I can continue to do my best to serve my customers.
Currently, my store is stocked with nap mats, customized burp cloths, and portrait art. I have a long list of ideas for new products that should be up within a month or so!”
I fell in love with her toddler nap mats. They are so soft, bright and colorful. I love how versatile the idea of a nap mat is for weekend trips and family movie nights.
My daughter loves her nap mat. The moment I pulled it out she went over to touch the soft minky fabric. Any time we watch a movie or go to the park, she loves to sit or lay on her nap mat. I only wish I had this sooner! It is perfect even for babies to do tummy time, change diapers, or nap at other people’s homes who do not have a pack and play.
We have wood floors. This mat makes a perfect and comfortable space for your toddler to sit if you have wood floors or tile. I love that she now has a little space for herself to cuddle when she needs a small break. I can tell she loves that it is totally hers.
I suppose I am most excited that this personalized nap mat will grow with her for years to come. She will be able to take this to grandma and grandpa’s house for weekend visits, to the park for picnics, and even on camping trips for in the tent!
The mat itself is so soft, and the inner foam interior is extremely comfortable. The blanket that is attached is perfect for nap times. It rolls up easily, attaches with Velcro, and even has handles to carry.
I took this to the park the other day for a picnic. We received several compliments. At our house she snuggles up in it after a long day of running around.
I do think this is a great gift for new moms. It is a beautiful, personalized belonging a toddler will cherish.
The nap mat is handmade and measures 22” in width by 44” (+11” pillow) in length. It is quilted, so the 1” foam interior maintains its shape in the wash. It rolls up and has built in Velcro straps and handles for easy transportation. Each mat has a combination of 2 fabrics, the “primary” and the “accent.”; the Minky Dot/Chenille Blanket. She currently has 20 different colors in stock, and they can be combined with many different fabric options. She also offers the option of having the pillow as a separate entity (not attached to the mat at all), and can add ties for added versatility.

Kristy loves making custom orders and working directly with her clients. If you do not see a combination color you like, or wish to have embroidery elsewhere on the mat- or for any reason whatsoever- please contact her! She wants you and your child to love this item, and believes that a more personal interaction is vital to achieving this goal!
*I received this product in exchange for showcasing this shop. All opinions expressed are my own. 🙂
