The Birthday Princess Turned Two

I cannot believe I am just now getting around to recording Lillian’s second birthday. It is funny how I wait for the “perfect” time to record important events, and that never comes around.
Can I just say- where did the time go? It felt like just yesterday my baby girl was placed into my arms for the first time. Here she is, getting all big and adorable on me. When her second birthday was nearing, I knew I wanted to do a Rapunzel and princess theme. Simply because Rapunzel was all she talked about. Now she knows all the princesses, but her first love was Rapunzel.
Lillian is utterly girly, obsessed with all things pink and sparkly, and loves Disney princesses. So we went ahead and through the princess a party. Her style.
It’s funny how it happened. We originally agreed to invite just a few friends. Maybe three kiddos and their parents. I kept adding a person or couple here and there, and so did my husband, and before we knew it we were up to around thirty people and ten kiddos! Needless to say, we had a couple of arguments, but in the end agreed it is better to have all our loved ones there to celebrate Lillian. Especially since all our family lives far away!
I ended up making a few stations for the kids to play rather than try to get little ones to play games. We had made large coloring books and packs of crayons, a bubble station, a big colorful parachute outside, a dress up station, and musical instruments. After all the thought put into it all kids really did was run around and chase each other!
The food turned out delicious. My husband grilled a ton of zucchini and made several homemade salsas. He also grilled up lots of chicken and made a huge fruit salad. We had cupcakes and cake for dessert.
Brian made a cake that was AH-MAZING. It is a replica of the “Spring Fling Cake” from The Market in Denver, CO. It was a two tier zucchini cake layered with cream cheese frosting topped with fresh, seasonal fruit, and an apricot glaze. Oh yum. We also had some amazing vanilla cupcakes with Rapunzel inspired golden yellow sparkly frosting!

For decorations I decided to use an amazing printable service called You Make Do. I was able to print off the cutest party banner, straw flags, and place cards at home and decorate the party!  I had literally one hour to decorate my house during Lillian’s nap. They were each under $5, super easy to make, personalized, and looked fantastic! I got tons of compliments on them. I had everything set aside in advance. I also bought a couple Rapunzel party decorations, some balloons, and a few table cloths. Lillian got a princess sash and tiara, and a Rapunzel doll! For party favors we gave the girls homemade princess wands (a tutorial to come), and for the boys bubbles! (Although I indicated they were welcome to a wand). See those amazing large coloring books? My Dad made them! They were a total hit!
It was such a fun day. Lillian even gave Mommy and Daddy a giant hug and thanked us, something very unusual and intentional! We were delighted and it even melted Dad’s heart!

My favorite memories from the day were watching her carefully taste the cake, then using fistfuls to stuff it into her mouth. My classy princess! I also loved watching her open her Rapunzel doll. She gasped and squealed with delight and jumped up and down! That poor doll has been dragged everywhere now. She just adores it. I also loved watching her share opening her presents with her friends. That was so sweet.

We love and adore our happy little girl and loved celebrating her!
