The hardest part is getting out the door. Once winter comes my temptation is to hole up inside my house and eat lots of warm and comfortable foods. I used to gain weight every Christmas season. I hated the cycle. Then I would always make a resolution.
No resolutions this year. I am determined to stay balanced and healthy by getting my butt out of the door and working out and also by eating healthy so I can indulge and enjoy gatherings at families and friends. No skimming the vegetable trays.
Here are some easy ways in which I am making my health a priority during this season:
Working out at a gym
I don’t diet. No way. The only way I can stay healthy is by working out 3-4 times a week. I love weight-lifting classes, kick-boxing, and Zumba. I also try to run here and there. I love my gym during the winter and think it is worth every penny. I can take my daughter because they have childcare. During the summer we do more stuff outdoors, but when it is cold it is great to have a place to go and burn some energy!
Good for you choices for on the go
If I don’t have a few healthy snacks in my bag, I end up making bad food choices. I am also more prone to stopping at a fast food restaurant or hitting up Starbucks. I always try to keep a water bottle with me, as well as a protein bar or some nuts and dried fruit. I am a big protein bar girl, as it is an easy way to keep track of calories and stay full without eating other crap. I love them because I can throw them in my purse easily, and they do not perish. Yea, they are a little high in sugar, but I usually eat them before or after a big workout, so I need the sugar. These new Campbell’s V8 Protein Bars were really good! They have 12g Protein and 3g Fiber which is plenty to keep me full. Campbell’s V8 also has a new line of protein shakes available in the health and beauty department at Walmart.
Invest in good workout clothes
I find that a great pair of running shoes and some comfortable workout clothes go a long way in making my workouts better. I love wearing my workout clothes on days where I know I will hit the gym later on. It is a reminder to me that I must go, no matter what, because I am dressed and ready. Cute workout clothes are great also because they are comfortable and can go from brunch to shopping to working out! Check out my fave compression leggings, and this super cute jacket!
Get fit with friends
Before Thanksgiving my family and I did a Turkey Trot. It was a really fun way to ensure we got a bit of exercise before filling up on good food.

Agree. I love the long jackets that are out now with the thumb holes.
December 10, 2014 at 5:27 amI have a feeling that if I invested in cute workout clothes, I’d be lounging around in them. Hah. Oh, well. Let’s hope I can at least get some hiking done.
