I had lofty intentions to do so many things this week. Take my daughter to the Children’s Museum, write a bunch of Christmas cards and have them sent out, clean my house, write blog posts, study the bible. Instead I found myself face down on my couch with a bottle of Gatorade almost all week.
The last time I had a stomach virus I was probably eight. The last time I have vomited was when I was pregnant, so we are pushing almost three years now. Thank God I got sick at night. It hit me like a tornado. All at once, I was confined to my bathroom. I will spare you the details, but I basically felt like I was at war with my body for almost 6 hours straight. I finally fell asleep on my cold, hard bathroom floor at 6 AM. Just thirty minutes before my daughter would be waking…
I hoped it was only a 24 hour bug or food poisoning. It wasn’t. It has been with me all week. Almost no food, lots of dehydration, and barely able to keep my eyes open during the day- I have been a terrible mom and a mess.
Today I woke up and felt a little better. I took a good, hard look at my house and cringed. I don’t think I have ever, EVER, seen it so disgusting. I had kinetic sand and play-doh smushed together in a giant ball on my dining table, sand scattered across the floor. I saw a mound of dishes in my sink, towels all over the place, and papers scattered. Magiclips were everywhere (these little princess dolls pictured below that keep Lil occupied for hours).
All I could do all week was simply get up and make sure my daughter survived while I tried to catch a nap. She normally gets two 15-minute intervals on the iPad a day, and maybe an episode of an educational television show. She got marathons upon marathons of iPad play and television shows. I am not kidding, by the end of the week she couldn’t stand the iPad. Maybe it was a good thing…?
As for me, I got nothing done. Nada, zip, a whole bunch of nothing. I did watch every episode of Parks and Recreation and Parenthood one night when I could not sleep due to (ahem) multiple trips to the bathroom. So I guess I did one thing. I don’t think I would call it productive.
We all survived Mom being sick. I realized I could do it while my husband was at work. It CAN BE DONE! We are back to normal life, and there is a lot of catching up to do, sanitizing our house, and hanging out with my kid.
So, I am kind of back from being sick. Blogging was not going to happen last week.
I am so thankful for my health. Every time I get sick I remember how grateful I should be on the days I feel well.
Off to finish cleaning my house. More blogging to come (I cannot wait to sit down and write later!).
