Thank you to Pop Secret for sponsoring today’s post and inspiring me to try building a pillow fort! #PopSecretForts
This Momma does not like snow days. They make me all crazy-like. Everything is off around our household when it is freezing outside. We are all standing around, pent up, looking for things to do. Not this time. Pop Secret and fort making to the rescue!
Popcorn. Check.
Marshmallows. Check.
Butter. Check.
Sprinkles. Check.
Anna and Elsa dolls. Check. (These dolls go everywhere).
Boom. Funfetti Popcorn Balls are born. Think rice crispy treats, but bigger, a little chewier, and REALLY fantastic (especially if you are a popcorn lover, as I am.) I used Pop-Secret Homestyle popcorn and it was perfect- not too sweet or buttery so I could add the flavor I wanted.
So we went to work making these little fist-sized balls of heaven. And they came out really good. I am going to give you the recipe at the bottom.
But we can’t just sit around eat sugar all night?! Hey, remember the good ole’ days when we used to build forts out of everything possible? I had to teach my daughter the fun of a fort. She is all into hide and seek, so I knew she would be obsessed.
We played all night. Hide-and-seek, doctor fixing boo-boo’s, and read books in the fort. We even fell asleep there.
The next day, the fort was still up.
I couldn’t get that little girl to stop running around like a mad woman in the couch! It was so much fun. I need to do this more often. Find free and fun things to make our house a complete imagination play-zone.
Even my husband was impressed I could throw together such a great fort!
For a fantastic pillow fort:
Materials
Broom
Sheets (2)
Couch
Pillows (as many as possible!)
Chairs (2)
Blankets
Stick a broom in the center of the couch, handle down, stuck in the seat cushions. Use pillows to lean against the weight of the broom, so the broom is behind couch cushions yet sticking out and up a bit. This will be the center of your fort.
Prop up two large couch cushions vertically. Take one corner of a fitted sheet and place around cushion. Tuck behind broom. Then place the other side around the opposite couch cushion. The sheet should create a small fort.
Drape another sheet over the fort. Place a chair on each end of the couch, and tie the sheet to the chair, creating a fantastic sheet-fort.
Stuff the couch inside with many pillows, add blankets to the floor, lots of games and dolls, and body pillows. Bring out the popcorn and movies and books and have fun!
Funfetti Popcorn Balls
Makes about 10-12 balls
1 bag Pop-Secret Homestyle Popcorn
1/4 cup butter
3 mini cups marshmallows
1 small jar sprinkles
Cooking Spray
1. Cook the popcorn according to directions and your microwave. Try not to burn it!
2. Remove all the unpopped kernels as best as possible. Put popcorn in a large bowl.
3. In a small saucepan, heat the butter on low until melted.
4. Stir in the marshmallows on low heat until combined.
5. Add butter and marshmallow mixture to bowl with popcorn and stir until well combined.
6. Add sprinkles, stirring until evenly distributed.
7. Spray your hands with cooking spray, and form small balls out of popcorn mixture.
Enjoy!
