Mom Review: is Disney on Ice worth it?

You’ve heard about it. No doubt driven by the giant billboards. My daughter has a radar for Disney on Ice. I took her last year and guess what? Hooked.

The time of year came again and we started to see the info. Treasure Trove. The first thing my daughter noticed was Rapunzel. She loves Rapunzel. Always has, and probably always will. We have gone through, oh, three or four Rapunzel dolls.

So the question begs, is it worth it?

Before I get to that, I have a few points to make. My kiddo just turned four. She just happens to have a birthday right around the time of year when Disney on Ice comes to tour in our city. So it is a no-brainer for me to take her. It is a fun “Mommy-Daughter” night. Bonus- Dad gets a night to himself (he decided to pass this time).

Second, she is four. I know children this young go to Disneyland and Disneyworld all the time. See, I LOVE Disney. I love Disneyland and Disneyworld, and I am not quite ready to take a child who still needs an afternoon nap, a stroller, and an early bedtime. I want to take her when she is ready to rock and roll, is tall enough to get on every ride, and able to stay up past eight. My husband agrees. We love it too much to take her at an age when it will be a lot of work for us. Plus, we just don’t have the finances for it right now. Maybe some day, but not this year or next.

Disney on Ice? Well, maybe you have heard it is expensive. A tad. But it is nothing, nothing, compared to a single ticket to Disney, a hotel, rental car, and airplane ride. And it totally satiated my four-year olds appetite for experiencing the magic of Disney live.

For one night, my daughter feels like a princess. She dresses up in her prettiest dress and tiara, gets the biggest snow cone EVER, and jams out to her favorite Disney songs. She gets to see the princesses twirl and skate across the ice. She is MY date for one night. And we get home right in time for bed.

So, is it worth it? YES. YES, YES.

My recommendation? Find a friend to go with. Go out to dinner beforehand, and allow the girls or boys to dress up. Make it as magical as possible. It makes the perfect playdate. The kids will never stop talking about it.

I put away about $20 for Lil to pick out something special. Last year she chose an Ariel figurine, this year she chose a behemoth snow cone with keepsake cup. She could only eat about half, which meant I got the rest. I love snow cones.

Treasure Trove was amazing because it had SO many of the characters we love. From Tinkerbell to Jasmine, Rapunzel and Snow White, we loved every act. The stand out acts for me were the Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan. You can get your own tickets to a show here.

Media is just so easy to access in the world we live in today. I loved taking Lil to something different that was filled with vibrant creativity, art, and grace. I hope it was as magical for her as it was for me when I went to see my first ice skating show.

Have you been to Disney on Ice? What was your favorite show?

I love everything Disney!! Disney on Ice is one of my favorites to go and see. I think it would be so much fun to go with a child but I love even going just with a group of adults it’s always a great show!

We love Disney on Ice. I think we’ve seen six or seven shows over the past ten years. It’s always a good time. Though it can be a real money trap. I like that they allow parents to bring their own snacks into the show. That does help. Yet, I always end up buying toys or something pricey.

I know, I always end up buying something. But it is so fun and something we do so rarely that it is worth it. I just expect to spend more than normal, and then I am not so upset haha. Thanks for the comment!

Wow! I also remember having watched Disney on Ice when I was a kid. It was my first concert to have ever watched and it was a treat from my parents for scoring high grades in school. It’s expensive but really worth the price to pay.

I’m not going to lie, as a 26-year-old adult, I’d probably go to Disney on Ice even if I didn’t bring children…

Haha I feel the same way! I really didn’t need a four year old as an excuse, but used it anyways!
