I used to spend thousands of dollars a year on my beauty regimen. Salon visits really added up. I also bought high-end makeup, occasional eyebrow waxes, treated myself to mani’s and pedi’s every so often, and got bi-weekly spray tans.
All in all, I would say I spent around $150 a month, at least, on beauty and hair products and treatments. I have had to cut way back on my beauty and hair product budget. Like, maybe $30 a month. I have had to get savvy, read lots of reviews on the top quality and bargain products, and try to stretch my money and products. I have definitely had to learn how to use coupons to stretch my budget and still get my favorite makeup essentials.
My favorite products last me quite a while and usually accomplish more than one goal at once. I have read reviews on them and am very happy with the quality- even compared to higher end products.
1. Dream Bouncy Blush by Maybelline
I love this blush because I don’t even need a brush. I can simply swipe on my cheek with my finger and get a lovely glow. Brainless!
2. Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner
The whole colorstay collection is my favorite, because it literally lasts all day. A great eyeliner with staying power in black is a must-have, daily wear makeup item.
3. Almay One Coat Thickening Mascara
Probably my favorite makeup product, this mascara is great because one coat is enough. It is quick to apply and lasts!
4. Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer
I am a fan of this concealer because it has sunscreen in it as well as reduces the puffiness around eyes. I am a fan of any anti-aging product that also works well during the day.
5. Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
I have been a long time fan of the colorstay lip stains. I wore them when I worked, and I still love them. They last forever.
6. Almay CC Cream
CC and BB creams are the best. It is brilliant to combine the costs of day moisturizers, sunscreens, primer, and coverage. Even better than saving money is saving all the steps of putting on layers.
I could live with these makeup essentials alone. I love that I can get a fresh and natural face that simply accentuates my features as well as provides lovely coverage at under $10 a pop.
I saved even more money on these products using the Walgreens Paperless Coupons app. I actually saved 33% on my total bill, knocking my products down to around $5 on average. That is an amazing deal. It took less than five minutes for me to clip the manufacturer e-coupons to my Balance Rewards account on my iPhone, and once I was at the check out line they simply scanned my bar code once to redeem my coupons. No sorting coupons, cutting them, and storing them. Everything was in my phone and ready to go. I love simplicity.
With the money I saved from my trip to Walgreens, I bought my daughter a present. She is obsessed with My Little Pony, and I saw this adorable Rainbow Dash sweatshirt complete with wings and a mane. After our savings my hubby and I decided to treat her to a new winter hoodie. She wore it all night, even though it was over 80 degrees!
Saving money so I can stretch my budget is great. We have lots of great family memories to make, and we are hoping that if we continue to budget we can do more fun family things like purchase some museum passes and have some spending money for Christmas.
